What is Highbanking for Gold Prospecting?
A highbanker is a device that separates rocks into several different sizes. These pieces will be fed through a simple box, with steel rods set an inch apart. The coarse rocks will stay on top, and the screen is made of sturdy slats to slide them out. A highbanker can cost anywhere from $600 to $1,500, but the price depends on the model and design.

Modifications to a highbanker
The highbanker is a type of sluice, with the added benefit of extra height. This machine can be purchased with a pump and hoses to move the material to the sluice. Because of this additional equipment, a highbanker is used in situations where water is scarce or is not available. High bankers are highly effective at trapping fine gold.

A sluice box modified for dredging is also suitable for beach mining, but requires extra attention to the process. Beach mining requires careful planning as the tide dictates the time of day. Hence, you need to pay special attention to the timing of your beach mining. You also need to keep in mind that high tide can disrupt your gold mining plans. For this reason, it is essential to make some modifications to the highbanker before using it.

Design
If you're interested in learning more about the gold prospecting process, you'll want to learn about the highbanker design. This popular piece of prospecting equipment is essentially a sluice box, but it has added height. The highbanker is mounted on a stand and uses a water pump to pull water into the sluice box, mimicking the natural flow of a river. The highbanker also has a hopper box that has spray bars in it, and a classifier sieve. Gold bearing gravel is shoveled into the hopper box and washed over the classifier screen, where large rocks and waste gravel are removed.

Highbankers are one of the most effective gold prospecting tools available. They use angles and height to simulate the ripples in a river to allow gold to settle to the bottom. This adds pressure to the gold, flushing it through more dirt. Some models also feature a hopper box and a classifier, but these additions will not significantly increase the size of the highbanker itself. There are other advantages to purchasing a gold highbanker.

Operation
The highbanker is an effective gold prospecting tool, and is a great way to find gold. It functions similarly to a standard sluice box, but has additional features that make it better for larger deposits. Highbankers are rigged with riffles to filter material, and are typically set up at the source of water. Paydirt can be shoveled into them with ease.

Choosing the right highbanker is essential for maximizing gold recovery. The riffles must be set up correctly in order for the dredge to work efficiently. Check them periodically as you feed material into them. Generally, most of the black sands will get hung up in the first few feet of riffles. If the riffles are clogged with black sand, it's time to clean them.

Cost
A highbanker is a single piece of equipment that allows gold prospectors to scale their operations. A highbanker allows a gold prospector to move more material and, therefore, more gold. Depending on the type of highbanker purchased, the cost of one can vary greatly. Choosing the right size depends on your work load and ability. The larger the highbanker, the more expensive it will be. For casual prospecting, a smaller, lightweight highbanker is best.

Another option is a manual highbanker. These machines are extremely effective and are made to process large quantities of dirt quickly. As the name implies, a high banker is a device that uses a pump to force water through a sluice box. Some models include a hopper box with spray bars and a classifier screen. These tools are designed to separate gold from rocks and other debris in the dirt.
