What Is a Horse Trailer?
When choosing a horse trailer, it's important to consider its towing capacity and gross vehicle weight rating. The towing capacity refers to how much weight a vehicle's axles can tow. The weight of a horse trailer, in turn, will affect the GVW of the vehicle. If the GVW is too high for the vehicle, it must be redistributed or replaced by a larger trailer. To determine the proper weight of a horse trailer, weigh it at a roadside weigh station. If you are unsure of the tongue weight of your horse trailer, you can use a tongue weight calculator to calculate the weight of the tongue.

Straight load
A straight load horse trailer is generally smaller than a bumper pull model, but it has some benefits. Straight load horse trailers usually have a front door to let you walk your horse out safely. They are also more economical. Some models include a ramp at the back and stalls that have an unobstructed entrance and exit. Some models are also equipped with solid hay mangers. You can choose a straight load model depending on the size and number of horses you plan to haul.

Slant load
Slant load horse trailers are generally designed to carry up to six horses, but more can be ordered custom-built. They also have a shorter wheelbase, making them easier to maneuver. However, they do not have as large of stalls as straight-load models, so larger horses may not be comfortable in them. Listed below are the pros and cons of a slant load. These types of trailers are perfect for smaller horses, but can be a bit awkward for large animals.

Manger
There are several things that you need to know before you can start your trip in a horse trailer. For instance, you must have the proper hay in the manger. The hay must be dry and not too wet, and you must have a way to retrieve it. A good way to do this is by using a Manger Hay Pillow. A good quality Manger Hay Pillow has a 4" x 6" mesh size and is made in the USA. It will keep your horse comfortable and hydrated. You should also get one that is made from a 4" x 6" mesh size, as a 1 3/4" mesh size may be difficult to remove wet hay.

Stock
There are many types of stock horse trailers available, with some featuring multiple dividers. Some of the best trailers for horses are closed-top or open-top, while others have no roof at all. These trailers vary in capacity, with the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) and length of the trailer determining their specific capacity. They may also have internal dividers for a comfortable riding experience. Here are a few important considerations to make when choosing a stock horse trailer.

Step-up
A step-up horse trailer is a standard option for transporting horses. They're easier to load than traditional trailers, and allow for a more convenient loading process. A step-up trailer also features a platform that's not much higher than the horse's knees. Horses must be trained not to jump into the trailer, which could cause uneven wear and shift the cargo inside. These trailers are very popular and are easy to operate.
