10x20 Shed Plans DIY Saltbox Roof Storage Shed Barn Building

These 10x20 Shed Plans will show you how to build your own Saltbox Roofed Shed. After following hard to understand drawings from books and the internet I decided to design and build my own sheds. I use the latest building practices and AutoCAD software to design these. This is for a 10' X 20' Saltbox shed. I like the size and design. I have included a Bill of Materials to make for easy shopping.

Saltbox Shed - What is a Saltbox Shed?
If you are considering building a shed, but are not sure about what style to choose, you should consider the classic Saltbox Shed. These are two-storey frame houses with a gently sloping roof. These sheds are available in both small and large sizes. In this article, we will discuss some of the pros and cons of these buildings and how they differ from other types of sheds. Let's start with the advantages.

Saltbox Sheds are two-storey frame houses
A saltbox shed is a two-storey wood building with a steeply pitched roof that is characteristic of the style. These homes originated in England during the 16th century. English settlers in New England needed more room for their expanding families. One-story additions were commonly added to two-storey homes. This resulted in the classic saltbox roof style. Saltbox sheds are traditionally made of redwood and have two-storey front and back walls.

They have a gentle sloped roof
The characteristic long front and short back of a Saltbox Shed set this small building apart from most other sheds. This design originated in New England and uses a 12/12 pitch on the front roof and a 5/12 pitch on the back. This means that for every foot of vertical wall in the front, there is an overhang of 12 inches and a five-inch overhang in the back.

They are more affordable
Compared to building your own shed, Saltbox Sheds are much more affordable. Shed construction kits come with everything you need, except shingles, drip edge, and floor. This makes them the perfect option for people who are constantly on the move or don't have a lot of time to spend on the project. You can even paint the shed to match your home and your taste! If you want your shed to look just like your house, it may be better to buy a pre-built shed kit and have it installed yourself.

They are available in small and large sizes
The classic Saltbox Shed is a versatile shed design that works well for garden storage and potting supplies. You can also use it for workshop storage. Because it has a taller roofline, you can place a bar window on the front wall. You can also install a full-length counter and shelves along the back wall. These sheds are designed to provide classic New England design aesthetics.

They have casement windows
If you're looking for a small storage shed with a traditional look, consider the Saltbox design. This classic shed is inspired by traditional New England architecture. Its double barn doors direct snow away from the doorway and down the side. The door features a pressure treated ramp for easy access. And, with a roof pitched to the front, this classic storage building is the perfect solution for storing all of your outdoor gear.

They have heritage hardware
Saltbox Sheds are a great option for anyone looking to buy a low-cost gable style storage shed. The company's gable style sheds come in a range of sizes and features, including more windows, flower boxes, Colonial-style doors, and cupolas. The large panelized sections make assembling the shed easier and are available with a variety of accessories, including a variety of colors and styles of doors and window coverings.

They are made with real wood
Saltbox Sheds are handcrafted using real wood and building permit required. The frame of a saltbox shed weighs up to a cord of firewood. In addition to sidings for lateral strength, these sheds feature an exterior storage bin. Wood is heavy and can move if there is moisture present, which can cause warping, bowing, and twisting. To prevent this, use Kiln Dried wood. It is typically identified by letters 'KD' on the lumberyard's label.
