What is a Futon?
What is a Futon? Futon originated in ancient Japan, where it originally referred to a round mat filled with leaves and placed on the ground. Today, the futon is made from a thin cotton pad called shikibuton. The word futon can also refer to a comforter or tri-fold frame. This article will discuss some of the different types of futons, and help you decide which one is right for your home.

Japanese tatami floor
While sleeping on a futon is not a traditional activity in the West, it is still a popular activity in Japan. The traditional futon is usually a guesthouse or ryokan, and it is an important part of Japanese culture. But the futon isn't practical for the average Western home. It is possible to purchase Japanese-style futons and other Japanese products that are easily available worldwide.

Tri-fold frame
The tri-fold frame on a futon is a bifold design, whereas a conventional A-Frame frame folds the mattress twice. A traditional tri-fold frame uses the shorter "width" of the mattress to provide seating, while a bi-fold frame only folds once. Because of this, tri-fold frames are generally wider and require thinner mattresses than their conventional counterparts.

Tri-fold mattress
If you're looking for a great bed to use as a futon mattress, look no further than a tri-fold mattress. These mattresses are designed to give the comfort of a traditional mattress, but with all the advantages of a tri-fold. These futon mattresses are great for both indoor and outdoor use, and some models even come with removable covers. For extra convenience, these mattresses can be machine-washed. However, some users have complained that the mattress does not have enough support, or that it starts to sag after a couple of months.

Latex mattress
Natural latex mattresses tend to be resistant to dust mites. For this reason, a latex mattress for a futon is a good option. Most latex mattresses are washed several times during their manufacturing process, which removes any fibers that can harbor allergens. However, those with severe allergies should exercise caution when choosing a latex futon mattress. Here are some tips for selecting a latex futon mattress.

Size options
There are many size options for a futon, depending on your room and desired amount of free space. Futons range in size from a single seat to a queen-sized sofa, and you can even get one that includes an ottoman or arms. If you're looking for a small couch to fit into a small bedroom, consider buying a double or queen-size model. For extra comfort, consider buying a queen-sized futon if your room is small, and a twin-sized futon if you want to fit it into a small space.
