What are Some Pergola Ideas?
You may be asking yourself, what is a Pergola Swing? First of all, it's a wooden structure with at least four support beams. The open sides of a pergola to provide shade, and some people choose to use them as walkways as well. Read on to learn more. And don't forget that pergolas can also be used as outdoor dining areas. Listed below are some reasons why pergolas are a great addition to any backyard.

Pergolas are large wooden structures with at least four support beams
A pergola is a large, open, structure without walls and at least four support beams. Its name derives from the Latin pergola, which means "projection of the eave," referring to the roof structure. The oldest known pergola dates back to 1,400 BCE, when an Egyptian high court official used it to shade himself from harsh desert sunlight. Pergolas were more popular in hotter climates.

They have open sides
Pergolas are often constructed with open sides and roofs. They are generally considered building operations, but many can benefit from the class E exemptions for non-construction work. In a 2002 Merseyside case, an inspector concluded that a pergola enclosed a volume of over 10m3 and partially surrounded the dwellinghouse. Depending on the size of your pergola, it might qualify for permitted development or be considered a simple extension of your house.

They provide shade
A pergola can be made from several different materials, including wood, branches, fabric, and live foliage. Different types of materials provide different levels of shade. Ancient Egyptians used palm leaves and reeds to block the sun. These same materials are still used today, especially in areas with a hot, dry climate. Pergolas can also be turned into a sukkah in the fall with reed mats.

They can also be used as a walkway
A Pergula can be constructed in many ways, including a wooden lattice cover or a metal structure supported by bricks or pillars. A wooden pergola can turn into an excellent pathway and provide shade for walk ways. A wooden lattice cover allows for natural light to filter through, and can be adorned with creeping floral vines. To add a fancy touch, consider installing a lantern with colored glass chimneys. Solid metallic structures can be used to provide a cover against the sun.

They are often made of steel
Choosing a metal pergola for your garden will be beneficial for several reasons. First of all, steel is more durable than wood or vinyl. Steel is rust, insect, and fire-resistant, making it a great choice for outdoor use. Additionally, steel is easier to install and maintain than wood or vinyl. This means your pergola will remain an attractive place to relax for many years. It is also less expensive to purchase than other materials.
