What Are Wooden Toy Boxes?

There are many different kinds of toy boxes available. Some of them are built in the form of benches or tables. Some are even lined with fabric. These are often designed to match upholstered furniture. They are also often foldable, making them easy to store. Depending on the style, they may also be made from other materials.

Simple design

A simple design of wooden toy boxes can be built from a cardboard box. These boxes have a simple design with a lid that fits over triangular gables. The sides and front of the toy box can be constructed with plywood. These boxes are sturdy and can be used to store various toys.

To build a wooden toy box, you need to purchase wood, glue, and screws. You will also need pocket holes to make the construction easier. A wooden toy box can have many unique features, including a library-style space on one side and an open area above the lid.

First, cut a square of plywood, 12"x12". The grain should be running sideways, and mark the position of pocket holes three inches from the corner on two sides. Then, set up a Kreg jig and drill four pocket holes per side. Make sure to mark the bottom edge of each strip with three pocket holes, as well.

Eco-friendly material

Despite the environmental benefits of wooden toy boxes, the use of wood for toy boxes is not a perfect solution. Some wooden toys are not biodegradable and emit chemicals when they decompose. Furthermore, wood that is harvested from unsustainably managed forests contains higher levels of greenhouse gases, which increases the threat of global warming. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to reduce the environmental impact of wooden toys.

To determine if a company's toys are environmentally-friendly, check the certification label. If the company has an FSC or BCorp logo, it meets certain standards. Additionally, check if the manufacturer uses materials that are 100% recycled. If they do, this means that they are using non-toxic paints and other environmentally friendly processes.

Sustainable toys are not only better for children, but also for the environment. Plastic toys can contain harmful chemicals, including BPA. They can affect your child's hormones and increase the risk of cancer. Moreover, wooden toys are usually more durable than plastic, which means you won't have to buy them as often. Furthermore, you can donate them when your child grows up instead of throwing them away.

Classic design

A classic design of wooden toy boxes offers plenty of concealed storage for children's toys. These boxes open up to reveal three storage drawers that are deep enough to hold stuffed animals and other toys. Soft-close hinges help keep toys safe inside. They have a compact footprint and look great in the corner of a child's room or at the foot of the bed. Some even have colorful prints that make them look fun and exciting.

Toy boxes are commonly made from plastic, but these aren't as sturdy as wooden toy boxes. Moreover, they don't support much weight. In addition, plastic toy boxes tend to be smaller and colorful. Their designs feature colorful kids' motifs. Larger models might have an easel-like lid that lets children create beautiful artwork.

Wooden toy boxes are available in different sizes, so you can choose one that fits your child's needs. Some models have a lid for storing smaller toys. Others have a flat top for working on toys.

Easy to build

An easy to build wooden toy box can be made using a sheet of plywood. To make a wooden toy box, you will need four pieces of plywood measuring 11"x11" and one piece of 1x2 lumber measuring 11"x29". You will also need one 1 3/4'' square dowel, wood glue, and a few scrap pieces of wood.

The first step in making an easy to build wooden toy box is to cut the plywood square. Make sure the grain runs sideways, and mark where you'll place your pocket holes. Mark these holes at three inches from the corner on two sides. Once the plywood square is cut, use the Kreg jig to drill four pocket holes per side, and three on the bottom.

There are several plans available for making a toy box. Most of them are simple, yet beautiful. These plans don't require complicated tools. In fact, if you're a beginner, you'll probably want to use a table saw instead of a miter saw. You can also use glue or other fastenings instead of nails. This way, you'll be able to build the box in a short amount of time.
