After creating the design, the next step should be building the frame. This can be made out of plywood or MDF board depending on the size and dimensions of your lane; screws and nails should be used to secure pieces together as well as strong glue to ensure stability.

Once the frame is finished, it's time to install targets and scoring mechanisms. You have several options for tracking scores using sensors or switches; alternatively, you could opt for more manual methods by labeling targets with various point values. It is also crucial that you test and fine-tune the machine by rolling a few balls down its ramp; by doing this you can make any necessary adjustments that ensure accurate and consistent scoring.

Create the Ramp

Create the ramp for your skeeball machine using a box and some cardboard. First, cut one side off of the box and duct tape it together; subsequently a three-sided box can cover its back side while providing a convenient ramp option.

A ramp should be angled appropriately to ensure balls roll smoothly to their targets. Cut another piece of plywood or MDF board to form its shape and angle before securely fastening it to the frame.

Installation of Targets and Scoring Mechanism

Install Targets and Scoring Mechanism

Arduino also controls a servo that drops a door when playing is restarted, similar to how real skeeball machines function. For ease of operation and safety purposes, a single-pole AC toggle switch has been integrated into the power line to activate and deactivate this machine as needed.

[gcall1979] found arcade switches worked well, though they could fail within several years. He decided on replacing them with more reliable IR break-beam sensors in his next project.

Once the targets and scoring mechanism have been installed, the next step is connecting all of the electrical components. A perforated breadboard was secured to the mounting board base to accept arcade micro-switch connections from target board scoring rings; additionally it distributes 5 VDC power and ground feeds across all components including LED lights and the servo motor.

Add the Ball Return System

Once a game is complete, balls will be stored behind a door mechanism which opens when the reset button on Arduino is pressed, keeping all 9 game balls neatly stacked within its structure. A micro servo motor powers this system; its removal allows troubleshooting and repairs as necessary. Designed on a ShopBot using 3/4" ply cut from 3/4" sheet material then assembled using tab-and-slot assemblies which made this project easily portable with 10 foot U-Haul truck when required.
